2018 Family Vacation

A family tradition for us is the summer vacation. This year we’re back in Destin, FL. One reason we like the Destin area is the drive time from Alpharetta. It’s about 6 hours , making it one of the closest beaches to us. Another reason, is the white sand and clear water. In addition to Destin, we’ve also stayed in Seaside, Seagrove and Sandestin (near Miramar Beach), always in condos that looked out over the ocean.

This year, we tried something different. We rented a house that advertised itself as pet friendly since  we wanted to bring Mulberry and Lexie along. The house had a private pool and a fenced in yard for the pets. It sounded really nice and had gotten mostly positive reviews. The downside? The distance from the house to the beach for one. The on-line ad for the place put the distance at “about a block” from the house. In addition, pictures on the rental website showed a golf cart, giving the impression the golf cart was part of the deal. It wasn’t and was $500 to rent for the week.

The house overall was nice. It had 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, a wrap around front porch and a small deck in the back with a gas grill so were excited. That excitement faded quickly the next morning when JoAnne learned the shower off the master bedroom did not have hot water. A quick check of faucets in the other bathroom, kitchen and even our bathroom sink had hot water. The owner had already told us it would be the next day before a plumber to get to us. Turns out the diverter valve for the shower needed to be replaced. So, it wasn’t until Tuesday that we had hot water in our shower. This was after arriving Saturday. I could go on and on about other, mostly minor issues we experienced but I choose not to focus on this negativity and instead just appreciate that the family was together and with plenty to do in Destin we could make many memories that we will cherish our entire lifetimes.

Would we still come back to Destin? Yes, but we would not be staying again at the Coral Cabana. It’s back to the high-rise, ocean front condos for us. What about the dogs, you ask? I’m afraid they will be staying at home under the watchful care of a “dog sitter”. I’ll be uploading some pictures so look for those soon!
